I work primarily in a documentary style, often using large-format view cameras for a high degree of detail and tone. My interests are broad, but most often deal with landscape, architecture, and portraiture, or any combination thereof. I often respond to the places around me, and how over time they change, be it at the hands of natural or of human forces. I am curious about humans and their peculiar existence in the world. The natural world is a wonderful place, but it becomes more interesting and complicated by its occupation by people. So in the broadest sense, my work deals with issues of society and ecology. The four-sided frame of the photograph is a very effective tool with which to scrutinize otherwise overlooked natural and human activity.
